The name Babylon Saints is both a contradiction in terms as well as an excellent way to disarm the potential listener of their expectations.  So to simply say that the Los Angeles-based group play reggae rock, albeit extremely catchy reggae rock, would be rather deceiving.  Singer Matt Gerovac, bassist Tyler Drake, and steel drummer Joseph “Panhead” Peck can offer a better set of groovy descriptions for their sound: Authentic.  Soulful.  Funk.  Honest. Caribbean.  American.  African.  Brazilian.  Spicy.  Danceable.

Just like this colorful imagery, the Babylon Saints members themselves are an assortment of backgrounds and musical perspective.  Their collective passion for reggae music was formulated within the schools, streets, and music venues of Anaheim and Whittier, CA, Pittsburgh, PA, the Virgin Islands, Cleveland, OH, Boca Raton, FL, Wichita, KS, Trinidad, WI, and local Los Angeles.  Whether it was a set of pots and pans (Panhead), a vacuum created after quitting baseball (Gerovac), or growing up in a musical environment (Drake) that got them to where they are now, what all these Saints have in common now is their dedication to getting their sound heard.

Babylon Saints have swept California with what Gerovac calls the group’s “gushing warm groove.” Their performances draw on the freedom to not only showcase each instrument, but to feed off and accentuate each member’s sounds and rhythms. Babylon Saints are building a robust live performance schedule with plans for expanded U.S. and international tour stops in support of the upcoming record. Their debut album on Citation Records, will be released on April 6, 2010 and will include songs that, Panhead would like you to know, might possibly ravish your face off. In a good way.

Tyler Drake
The bassist and youngest member of Babylon Saints grew up in a musical environment in Anaheim, CA, where his interest in the bass guitar developed out of a love for low frequencies and subwoofers.  Tyler is apt to verbalize his passion about reggae to any available audience, though his chosen medium for spreading the word is through his bass; musicians such as Bob Marley, Black Uhuru, Burning Spear, Peter Tosh, Gregory Isaacs, and Yellow Man influence his style.   Outside of the band, Tyler enjoys surfing, playing golf, and spending time with his friends and family.  He has several nicknames, out of which his favorite is “Sledge.”

Matt Gerovac
Matt, the lead singer and guitarist of Babylon Saints, grew up exposed to calypso and reggae in St. Thomas, where reggae bass lines were regularly blasted by drivers n the street.  He had various instruments available to him as a child, but he ultimately took up guitar as a way of filling up the void left by quitting baseball.   After living in Pittsburgh and Cleveland and picking up an English degree at Cleveland State University, Matt moved to Los Angeles in 2005, where he formed the band, which was originally called MG3 (Matt Gerovac Trio).  Among his favorite artists, he has been influencd by Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, The Police, Led Zeppelin, Fela Kuti, and the Beatles.  Today, Matt uses his music career as a vehicle for philanthropy.

Joseph “Panhead” Peck
Panhead, who gets his name from his chosen instrument, was ready for music at age two with the help of a few pots and pans, so that by age nineteen he was ready to discover his intended passion, the steel pan drums.   After leaving his birthplace of Cleveland, OH, he swept through Boca Raton, FL, Wichita, KS, and Trinidad, WI, until settling in Los Angeles in 2002, by which time he had earned a BME degree in Music Education, established a production and publishing company, studied under the mentorship of Reginald Ayan Williams, and earned years of experience playing in various locations across the country.  Panhead foresees “mankind coming full circle and rediscovering the healing power of the drum,” the progress of which he plans to move along by playing as many live shows as possible to spread the love.
